SeQent Releases WearOS Native Application for Receiving Manufacturing Alarms & Events

SeQent publishes a new native WearOS messaging solution, Wi-Fi Messenger Client for WearOS. The latest product enables an Android Smartwatch User to directly receive alarm notifications without needing a paired Android Smartphone.

London, Ontario, June 2024 —SeQent has just released a new application which offers yet another solution for manufacturing staff to receive alarm and event notification.

Today, SeQent announced the release of a new product, Wi-Fi Messenger Client for WearOS. This new expansion of the Wi-Fi Messenger product line allows WearOS-based smartwatches to participate directly as clients of Wi-Fi Messenger. This enables our customers to equip their staff with only a WearOS smartwatch on which they can receive alarm and event notifications as they would have historically received on a smartphone.

Unique to this solution is the fact that this client runs natively on the WearOS watch and does not require an actively paired smartphone per user. Manufacturing floor staff can now receive alarm reports directly to their wrist, and a simple turn of their arm allows them to read the newly arrived alert.

“One of our largest partners’ parent company approached SeQent in 2023 looking for a product enabling their staff to utilize smartwatch technology to be notified of manufacturing alarms & events. Having already released our Wi-Fi Messenger infrastructure, including native iOS and Android smartphone clients, this was a natural extension to the product line. While we had supported notifications being received on paired smartwatches from a very early release of our smartphone clients, this new undertaking, with a native watch application, was a tough technical challenge. SeQent’s development team was able to overcome many hurdles and ultimately produce a native watch application that was a fully participating Wi-Fi Messenger Client. The Industrial Manufacturing environment is evolving post-pandemic, and manufacturers are looking for unique, innovative applications of technology. Wearables in this environment provide a unique user experience and significantly reduce the number of movements a staff member must execute to receive an alarm message. Building on this first native wearables app, SeQent is well-positioned to lead the innovation of this type of technology applied to manufacturing automation,” says Scott Burns, Chief Technology Officer at SeQent.
