FAQs
How are alerts delivered to staff in real time?
SeQent’s alarm platform routes notifications to whatever device people are already carrying. Alerts can appear as text on digital two-way radios or smartphones (via email, SMS, or the Wi-Fi Messenger app) and can also be announced over two-way radio channels/talk groups, PA speakers, pagers, Andon displays, tablets, and other devices. This broad device connectivity ensures maintenance teams, operators, and supervisors never miss a critical alarm.
Which plant systems and devices can SeQent integrate with?
Alarm & Alert Notifications natively integrate with SCADA and MES systems. For systems for which a native integration is not available, integration via OPC is always possible. Supporting a wide range of communication devices, notifications can be triggered by events in PLCs or historian systems and delivered to Motorola radios, smartphones, Wi-Fi Messenger, overhead PA speakers, pagers, and large LED/LCD display boards. This flexibility enables the system to seamlessly integrate with existing infrastructure and expand as the plant modernizes.
How does the software prevent alarm flooding?
To avoid nuisance alarms and operator fatigue, SeQent supports alarm rationalization, prioritization, and suppression. These techniques reduce low-value alarms and ensure operators focus on high-priority events. Fewer alarms lead to faster, safer responses and better compliance with ISA18.2 guidelines.
What is Wi-Fi Messenger and why would I use it?
Wi-Fi Messenger is a plant floor communication mobile app that delivers two-way text messages over the facility’s existing wireless network. It integrates with SCADA and MES systems so events from production equipment automatically generate alerts. The use of onsite Wi-Fi means no additional paging or radio infrastructure is required, and messages are secure, timely, and reliable.
Are perpetual and subscription licenses available?
Yes. Plants can choose a perpetual licence with annual maintenance/support or a subscription model that spreads the cost as an operating expense. Both options include access to technical support and software updates.
How does 24/7 support work?
SeQent’s alarm management platform is backed by 24/7 support, ensuring technical assistance and system monitoring are available around the clock. Having one hour response time to an engineer online to assist means problems will be corrected quickly. This helps plants meet uptime requirements and provides peace of mind during critical operations.
