How the Integration Works
SeQent integrates with AVEVA System Platform and InTouch through native data interfaces. Alarm data, including tag name, priority, area, description, and timestamp, flows into SeQent without middleware or custom development.
For PI System users, SeQent can ingest event and alarm data from the PI historian, enabling notification workflows triggered by historical data patterns or threshold breaches. Full details on SeQent’s AVEVA integration page.
Once ingested, SeQent routes each alarm based on configurable rules: shift schedule, operator role, geographic area, and alarm priority. Notifications are delivered via Motorola MOTOTRBO two-way radios, smartphones (push notification or SMS), email, PA speakers, Andon displays, Wi-Fi messengers, or pagers. If the first recipient does not acknowledge, the alarm escalates automatically through a defined chain.
Why AVEVA Users Need Alarm Notification Beyond the HMI
AVEVA environments tend to run in process-intensive industries: oil and gas, chemicals, water treatment, power generation, and large-scale manufacturing. These environments generate high alarm volumes and operate around the clock.
EEMUA Publication 191 (4th Edition, 2024) recommends no more than one alarm per operator per ten minutes during normal operations. In practice, many AVEVA-based plants exceed this threshold, especially during process upsets. Without intelligent routing, operators either receive all alarms (leading to fatigue) or miss critical ones buried in the flood.
